Warrior of the Week: Nicole Beaty

Tell a bit about yourself.

I’m from Nashville, TN. After college, I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, met some folks on the trail from Bellingham, came to visit them afterward, and 16 years later, I am still here. I had been a personal trainer/gym manager for years but after moving to Bellingham, I went back to school for nursing. For several years I worked in the ICU’s at Skagit Hospital and Harborview, and now am a Flight Nurse on San Juan Island. I got married about 4.5 years ago and have 1 child, Augie TuPac, a rescue dog from Kauai. I couldn’t be happier.

How long have you been practicing at Flux Power Yoga? How did you
know this was your place?

I’ve been at Flux for several years. I crave yoga and find that it is the best medicine to keep my body in shape for my job and all the activities I love to do. I knew Flux was for me because the practice is challenging, in all the right ways, and the most rewarding yoga I have ever done. I love walking into the studio, or online these days, and being greeted by happy faces. I always feel welcome and a part of the flux community.

How has your practiced evolved and /or what benefits have you gotten
in your practice and in your life?

Through Flux I feel like, not only has my yoga improved, but I have begun to meditate more efficiently, and listen to what my body needs at the present. Even through injuries, I am learning the art of compromise, meaning, do what feels good. if I can’t do it correctly, even w/ modifications, then I shouldn’t do it. Rest when I need to rest, and push harder when my body allows me to do so. This has been tough for me but I am learning..slowly.

Favorite pose and why?

I love dancer pose. I love the way it stretches my entire body, and even though I probably don’t look like it, for just a moment, I feel graceful.

Any advice for new yogis?

Be ok with w/ being new at yoga. It can be intimidating when you don’t know what you are supposed to be doing and you are unsure that you are doing it right. Don’t be afraid to fall over, just get back up and try again. Keep at it, your body will thank you for it.
